Using LIBS to study lithium silicate penetration for stone consolidation, F.Surma, P.Schloegel, M.Labouré, L.Rosenbaum. Conférence Lacona XII, 2018.(english version)

LIBS technology is used to monitor the penetration depth of a lithium silicate consolidant. Lithium silicate has many advantages over other consolidants but is less used because its interaction with rock is difficult to follow with conventional analysis techniques (SEM, etc.). On the other hand, LIBS easily detects chemical elements such as lithium.

Study of stylolites by Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy, P.Baud, P.Schloegel, F.Surma. Conférences EAGE, 2018 et EGU, 2019. (english version)

Some stylolithic rocks can be used for the storage of nuclear waste. Stylolites are compressive structures and their impact on fluid circulation is not well understood. Therefore, we studied the elementary composition of the matrix and stylolites using LIBS technology in order to understand if these structures act as a barrier or drain to the fluid circulation and then to determine if the storage of waste is possible or not.

Application of LIBS to metallogeny, F.Surma, C.Sasseville, F.Pelascini, V.Motto-Ros, V.Detalle. 2017. (english version)

The craton of the Superior province, in northern Quebec, is an area of interest for gold deposits. LIBS technology has the advantage of easily detecting many chemical elements such as gold (Au), boron (B), silver (Ag) ... Epitopos in collaboration with Geocoop has developed a LIBS mapping methodology to understand the phases of ores mineralization. The objective of the project, in collaboration with the mining industries of Quebec, is therefore to provide a temporal asset thanks to the LIBS for the prospecting of gold.
